Evaluation of the UN Women’s Women, Peace and Security in the Arab States Regional Project (2018-2019)
As women’s participation and inclusion in decision-making processes remain extremely low in context of conflict and crisis, UN Women’s Women’s, Peace and Security in the Arab States Regional Project was implemented to target some of these challenges related to the status of women in peace processes and the post-conflict state building process. The project was implemented over a three-year period from January 2016 to January 2019, in Tunisia, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as regionally through engagement with the League of Arab States.
In the project implementation, UN Women worked both at the country and regional level and with other UN partners, national and regional partners, as well as NGOs and civil society organizations to address some of these challenges from a WPS lens.
CMC was contracted to carry out an external final evaluation of the project in 2018. The evaluation provided insights and lessons learned from the project regarding its process, best practices, and areas for improvement, in order to inform a second phase of the project. By adopting the OECD-DAC criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the project, as well as gender-equality and human rights, the evaluation assessed and documented the key changes and results observed from the project intervention, in addition to unintended results of the project.
