Contract Type: Full-time position, consultancy basis
Duration: Initially six months, with possibility for extension based on performance

1. Background

Conflict Management Consulting (CMC) is an international consulting firm specializing in conflict analysis, mediation support, stabilization programming, institutional capacity building, and peacebuilding advisory services. CMC works in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, partnering with national institutions, civil society actors, and international donors to design and implement conflict-sensitive and evidence-based programming.

CMC has been implementing projects in Sudan through partnerships with national implementing organizations and international stakeholders since 2017. Given the expansion and consolidation of its portfolio in Sudan, CMC seeks to recruit a Sudanese National Coordinator to strengthen project implementation, partner oversight, representation, and business development.

2. Purpose of the Position

The National Coordinator will serve as CMC’s primary in-country focal point in Sudan. The role combines program implementation oversight, coordination with implementing partners, contextual analysis, representation, and support to business development efforts, as well as participation in CMC’s international meetings.

The position requires strong political awareness, operational capacity, and the ability to navigate complex conflict dynamics while ensuring compliance with CMC standards and donor requirements.

3. Key Responsibilities

A. Program Implementation and Oversight

  • Coordinate day-to-day implementation of CMC projects in Sudan
  • Supervise and provide technical and operational oversight to Sudanese implementing partners
  • Ensure project activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with contractual obligations
  • Monitor progress against workplans, indicators, and deliverables
  • Support data collection, quality assurance, and reporting processes
  • Undertake or support high-level qualitative data collection activities, including key informant interviews (KIIs)
  • Ensure compliance with donor rules, safeguarding standards, and CMC policies

B. Partner Management and Capacity Support

  • Serve as the primary liaison between CMC headquarters and national implementing partners
  • Conduct regular field visits (security permitting) to monitor implementation
  • Identify capacity gaps and propose mitigation or support measures
  • Facilitate communication and problem-solving between partners and CMC leadership
  • Contribute to strengthening conflict-sensitive and accountable programming practices

C. Representation and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent CMC in coordination meetings with local stakeholders, civil society organizations, authorities, and donor representatives (as delegated)
  • Maintain constructive working relationships with key actors relevant to CMC’s portfolio
  • Provide regular political, security, and conflict updates to CMC headquarters
  • Advise on contextual risks and operational implications

D. Business Development and Strategic Positioning

  • Identify funding opportunities relevant to CMC’s expertise in Sudan
  • Contribute to proposal development, including contextual analysis, partner identification, and input to technical design
  • Support consortium-building and relationship management with potential local partners
  • Provide background research and strategic briefings to inform CMC’s positioning in Sudan

E. Risk Management and Duty of Care

  • Monitor political and security developments affecting operations
  • Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies
  • Ensure activities are conflict-sensitive and do not exacerbate local tensions
  • Escalate operational or reputational risks to CMC management in a timely manner

4. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in political science, conflict studies, development studies, international relations, law, economics, business, statistics, or a related field
  • A Bachelor’s degree with substantial relevant experience may be considered

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of professional experience in peacebuilding, governance, stabilization, development programming, or related fields in Sudan
  • Demonstrated experience working with international donors (e.g. EU, UN, bilateral donors)
  • Experience supervising or coordinating implementing partners
  • Proven experience in proposal development or business development is an asset
  • Ability to conduct high-level qualitative interviews (e.g. KIIs) and translate findings into operational, analytical, or strategic insights
  • Strong familiarity with Sudan’s political, conflict, and civil society landscape

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and political sensitivity
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills
  • Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken)
  • Sudanese national

5. Institutional Arrangements

The National Coordinator will report to CMC’s Head of PeaceTech and Managing Director. Regular coordination meetings will be held virtually. The position requires close collaboration with CMC technical experts and operations staff.

Travel within Sudan may be required, subject to security conditions.
